Din Tai Fung, 2D1N Korean BBQ and more yums!

A quick post before I go to bed..

Went to the very famous Din Tai Fung at Paragon, known for their steamed dumplings. After that we went to the basement in Takashimaya for a quick browsing amongst their japanese stalls. Definitely need to go back to take my time there exploring the stuff! This time we just quickly got the dessert for the evening.

OK, time for photos:

Korean BBQ at 2D1N at Tanjong Pagar (think it was there). It was so hot and messy but so much food! 20SGD for a BBQ buffet. SO much meat!! YUM!

My lunch at the Hawker center next to Parkway Parade the other day.

Oh and I had some fish too..;)

OK, first picture of the Din Tai Fung series. The Oh so popular steamed pork dumplings with soup inside. It was so thin, juicy and perfect temperature to not have the soup burn me when I chewed on it.

The shrimp and pork siu mai; kinda hard to eat. I bit off the top and ate the rest as a normal sized dumpling ;) It was OK

The shrimp and egg fried rice. Very nice to have with the dumplings since it was flavored quite modest, but still not bland.

Dan dan min…SO yum, the noodles were so chewy and elastic..mmm!

Need my greens..quickly braised with garlic..SO fresh and yum!

Normally don’t go for the vinegar dip for my dumplings, but with the thinly shredded and prepared ginger..it was really nice!

As I wrote, we went to Takashimaya and bought some dessert. Got them in these cute boxes..just had to take a photo of the packaging!

CUTE!

Apple pie with cinnamon and nuts. SO delicious. Not too sweet and the crust firm and nice. Ate it both warm and cold. With vanilla ice cream of course!

Forgot the exact name, but chocolate crumble with amaretto something haha..thought this would be my favorite, but it was actually quite boring to eat..

The dessert are from Perla’s and they sell a variety of pastries. We were also informed that they have their own restaurant called Ristorante Da Valentino. Other than fantastic pastries, they serve italian food. Wonder if it’s good..anyone been there?

OK, time to sleep..

Hawker food at East Coast

The other day I went with a friend to a Hawker food center, on the east coast. Hawker food is like a center with different food stalls of more authentic food, similar to street food.

It was my first time experiencing it and it was really nice and cozy..super casual and heaps of food to choose between.

I haven’t been in asia much, but in Singapore you don’t really get “street” food, maybe because of the littering law. I guess that’s why there are Hawker food center like this and they pretty much exist everywhere, anywhere.

Two girls, this our table…

Fried oysters and egg

Satay freshly off the grill

BBQ stingray, first time trying it. White fish, the meat is stringy, but still very soft and juicy. Very nice.

Carrot pancake with chilli

In singapore we call it Bong Kong? haha, I don’t remember, but something like that.

What most people have, sugar cane drink, I had with lemon juice in it

And at the end, the traditional dessert. Forgot what it’s called, but it’s something in the bottom of the bowl, then a huge ball of shaved ice with syrup (the red one is rose and the other is brown sugar) topped with mango sauce and condensed milk. This thing was HUGE! Very sweet, but quite nice. I dug into the center from the bottom since I knew i wouldn’t finish it but still didn’t want to miss out on the “surprise” inside.

It was nice, but very oily and salty. Nice to have every now and then, definitely not something to have every day for a long period of time. Not for me anyways. Next time I’ll probably just have the congee..can’t make that one too oily or salty right? Not if I take the plain one ;)
